VEGAN OUTREACH CELEBRATES MILESTONE
Signature Pamphlets at Three Million and Counting
Pittsburgh — Vegan Outreach, a Pittsburgh-based
nonprofit organization dedicated to reducing
the amount of suffering in the world, today
announced that more than three million copies
of its signature pamphlets, Why Vegan?
and Try Vegetarian!, have been distributed,
including more than 600,000 in the past year.
The group’s 20,000+ dedicated members
have distributed copies of Vegan Outreach’s
literature by leafleting, tabling, stocking
displays, or simply offering them to friends
and family. Why Vegan? and Try
Vegetarian! have reached all 50 states,
ten Canadian provinces and territories, and
dozens of other countries.
Vegan Outreach’s brochures Why Vegan?
and Try Vegetarian! are the most recognized
and widely utilized vegetarian literature in
the world. Many other animal rights and vegetarian
groups have sponsored their own printings, including
some of the largest national animal rights organizations,
such as People for the Ethical Treatment of
Animals (PETA) and Farm Sanctuary.
“Animal liberation will require that
our society’s principal interaction with
animals not be at the dinner table—when
we eat their corpses,” said President
Jack Norris, a Registered Dietician. Executive
Director Matthew Ball added, “In our eleven
year history, we’ve found that once we
make them aware of the cruelty that goes on
in factory farms and industrial slaughterhouses,
many people want no part of it. Simply giving
them the information leads compassionate people
to change what they eat.”
“Vegan Outreach does phenomenal work
on a shoestring budget. I've personally distributed
many copies of Why Vegan?, and I'm
not surprised that they've reached this milestone,”
explains Bruce Friedrich, Director of Vegetarian
Programs for PETA. “Vegan Outreach's work
may well be the most cost-effective work for
animals in our movement. I am proud to be a
member and supporter.”
Vice President Anne Green explains, “We
recognize that limited time and resources demand
that activists make smart choices in their advocacy.
Educating the general public about the cruelty
to animals inherent in factory farming will
have the greatest positive effect for a better
world.”
